Razor wire is generally available in two material types: stainless steel and galvanized steel. On the market, "pure" stainless steel versions—where both the blades and the core wire are made of stainless steel—are costly and reserved for highly specialized applications, whereas galvanized carbon steel is the standard, widely used option.
The overall process of making barbed wire consists of several parts: cutting the blades, wrapping the wire, knotting, and packaging.

Cutting the blades: The purchased steel strip is processed using a punching machine. Ordinary blades use steel strips with a thickness of about 0.5mm. Depending on the punching machine pressure, they can be made in different specifications, such as punching 7, 9, 11, or 13 blades per stroke. Some heavy-duty punching machines can punch seventy or eighty blades at once, resulting in huge production volumes.
Our razor wire punching machines come in two types: standard-speed and high-speed. A high-speed machine offers a production rate equivalent to three standard-speed machines; therefore, the high-speed model is ideal if you require high output, while the standard model is a suitable, economical choice if production volume requirements are lower.

Wrapping the wire: The razor blade is strip-shaped, with only sharp barbs, which cannot provide support. Therefore, a metal wire core needs to be added in the middle. The core and the blade have a semi-enclosed structure.
The speed of a wire-wrapping machine depends on both the machine's manufacturing limitations and the operator's proficiency; in some razor wire factories, workers can achieve speeds of over one hundred meters per minute.

After the wire wrapping process, if the assembly is to be put into use, clips must be applied between the rope loops; these clips are produced via punching and then installed using a pneumatic clipping tool.
